Our town of Bannockburn lies 20 km north of Geelong and approximately one hour drive west of Melbourne. Bannockburn has a population of around 2,500 and is one of the fastest growing regional towns in Victoria. The town grew in the 1850's after the discovery of gold in the provincial town of Ballarat. Bannockburn is situated on the main road from the gold fields of Ballarat to Geelong. Our town is now more famous for its wineries and of course from its Scottish name of Bannockburn.
On Sunday 25th June 2006 we held our inaugural Battle of Bannockburn Country Fair which was attended by over 2,000 patrons at the local football ground. The event will now be an annual event which will coincide with the anniversary of the original Battle of Bannockburn in Scotland (23-24 June 1314). The event focuses around 50% Scottish activities with the remaining activities a mixture to interest all patrons. Activities will include Highland Bands, Highland & Celtic Dancing, Medieval Re-enactment, Craft Markets, FREE Children's Amusements & Rides, Ferret Racing, Vintage Motorcycle Displays, Vintage Car Displays, Ute Show, Food Stalls, Bar Facilities, Local School Art Competition, Toss the Haggis, & Horseshoe Throwing Competitions.
We are now planning this year's event which will be held on Sunday 14th June 2009. We will be increasing the amount of displays and activities for all the family. Once you pay the entrance fee to the fair, ALL RIDES AND ENTERTAINMENT IS FREE.
Entrance fee: Family $25, Adults $10, Children $5 Concession $7.50. This fee covered all entertainment for the day including all the children's amusements and popcorn.
